White spots? Our ICON treatment offers a solution.

White spots, also known as white spot lesions, are unsightly, chalky white patches that can appear on the surface of your teeth. They can be caused by various factors and often occur after braces are removed or after prolonged brushing with the wrong technique.

Causes of white spots

There are different types of white spots, each with their own cause:

  • Demineralization: This is the most common cause. It occurs when acids from food and drinks attack the enamel of the teeth, causing minerals to disappear. This process often occurs around the brackets of braces or in areas that are difficult to brush. The stains are porous and dull.

  • Fluorosis: These stains are caused by excessive fluoride intake during tooth development. This can happen, for example, if young children swallow too much toothpaste. The stains are often diffuse, with a white to yellowish appearance.

  • Hypoplasia: These are spots or grooves caused by a developmental disorder of the enamel, often caused by illness, malnutrition, or medication during childhood. These spots are permanent and have a distinct, irregular structure.

The ICON treatment: minimally invasive and highly effective

The ICON treatment (Infiltration of Caries with Resins) is a modern and revolutionary method for treating white spots. It is a minimally invasive technique that preserves the structure of the tooth, without the need for drilling or filling.

How does the ICON treatment work?

The treatment consists of three simple steps:

  1. Etching: A special etching gel is applied to the white spots. This gel opens the pores of the affected enamel, allowing the next material to penetrate deep into the tooth.

  2. Drying: The dentist then applies a drying liquid to remove all the water from the pores, creating space for the resin.

  3. Infiltration: A liquid synthetic resin (infiltrant) is applied. The resin flows deep into the pores of the white spots and is hardened there with a special lamp. The resin fills the pores and restores the optical properties of the enamel, causing the white spots to disappear and the tooth to regain its natural, even color.

The ICON treatment is quick, painless, and delivers immediately visible results. It is an excellent option for treating demineralization spots and mild cases of fluorosis, offering attractive and long-lasting results.
